Areas of Expertise

  • Senior Lecturer, Department of Comparative Studies
  • Senior Affiliate, The Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning
  • Certified OSU Suicide Prevention Program REACH trainer

Elizabeth began her career in higher education teaching and educational development 1999 as part of an experimental program to support student retention. In 2002 she began work at Ohio State studying, teaching, and working as consultant to advance teaching across the colleges. Since that time, she has worked variously as instructor in English, Communications, and Comparative Studies as well as several bridge programs focused on diversity and inclusion, educational developer in OSU offices such as Writing Across the Curriculum and the Digital Media Project, and curriculum developer and assessment planner as part of her role as coordinator in Comparative Studies. She began teaching fully online courses in 2009, participating on several curriculum development teams and educational technology innovation groups at OSU, Miami University and Franklin University. In addition to directing the Office of Distance Education, she continues to teach classes, mostly online, as a Senior Lecturer in Comparative Studies with a focus on literature, culture, power and identity.

Elizabeth is deeply invested in inclusive teaching, backward design, classroom community building, and advancing the experience of teaching and learning wherever possible. She believes distance education is particularly fertile ground for those advancements.

Elizabeth is also a Senior Affiliate at the Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning partnering with faculty and staff across the university to enhance and improve educational experiences of those in our learning communities. She volunteers as a suicide prevention trainer for OSU’s Reach program, encouraging everyone on our campus to become part of a network creating a campus culture of care.
