ASC Teaching Forum – Guiding Principles and Innovative Use Cases for Teaching with A.I.

On Monday, March 18, College of Arts and Sciences Office of Distance Education hosted a Teaching Forum bringing together a diverse collection of faculty and staff expert perspectives to discuss the opportunities and challenges of teaching in a time defined by a rapid acceleration of expanded use of A.I. tools. The panel discussion included an explanation of how A.I. tools work, implications for academic integrity, principles for effective use, and examples of innovative use cases.

Anticipated Outcomes – Our goal was that by the end of this session, attendees would be able to...

  • Understand how generative artificial (A.I.) and large language models (LLMs) work and why OSU decided to make a data protected version of Microsoft Copilot available to faculty, staff, and students

  • Discover approaches to minimize opportunities for student misuse of A.I. tools and promote academic integrity

  • Reflect on principles and strategies to establish transparency and agency as foundational to appropriate use of A.I. tools in academic settings

  • Learn from faculty peers that have planned some uses of A.I. tools to support instructional goals and facilitate engaging student learning experiences
