In February 2023, the Orton Geological Museum launched the first virtual tour of the Museum. The virtual tour brings together images, videos, 360º media, 3D object renderings, and detailed object descriptions to provide additional access to the history and treasures that exist within the impressive building of Orton Hall.

ASC Office of Distance Education instructional Designer, Jessica Henderson collaborated with Loren Babcock, Director of the Orton Geological Museum, ASC Tech and the Emerging Tech Studio, to create this exciting resource. This virtual tour was made possible by the College of Arts and Sciences adoption of ThingLink, Carmen-integrated tool for creating interactive content.

The completed project is featured on the Orton Geological Museum’s website and will be used in community engagement projects. Future iterations of the tour will incorporate images and objects from the Orton Memorial Library and new additions to the Orton Geological Museum gallery exhibits.
